Were the Prophets Jews or Christians?

2:140 Or do you say that Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the descendants were Jews or Christians?" Say, "Are you more knowing or is Allah?" And who is more unjust than one who conceals a testimony he has from Allah? And Allah is not unaware of what you do.

10:84 And Moses said, "O my people, if you have believed in Allah, then put your trust in Him, if you are Muslims."

("Muslim" is an Arabic word meaning "one who submits (to God)". By definition, the Prophets who submitted to God (5:44), were Muslims)(In the Qur’an, the word “Jew” (ha-waw/alif-dal) is used in the context of religion (Judaism), not ethnicity or lineage, because it is mentioned together with other religious groups (Christian and Sabians (2:62)). So, in the sense of religion, Jacob and the descendants were not Jews (2:140), because Judaism differs from God’s religion, so the Jews are not submitting / obeying God (e.g. the Jews do not believe in the Gospel / Jesus and they do not believe in the Qur’an / Muhammad; those who reject the Verses of the Qur’an are disbelievers (2:91, 52:33-34, 46:10, 10:95-97, 23:38-39, 40:70))(The Qur’an also uses the words “Children of Israel” (Bani Israel), but, in this case, the words “Bani Israel” establish their lineage, so, they are referred to as the descendants of Israel (Jacob) in the Qur’an)(Allah knows best)

3:85 And whoever seeks other than Islam as religion - then never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be from the losers.

(“Islam” is an Arabic word meaning “submission (to God)”; that’s the religion preached by all Messengers. According to Luke 22:42, Jesus said, “yet not my will, but yours be done”)(Non-Muslims wrongly say that the Messengers were not Muslims because, for them, “Muslims” are those who follow Islam, and, for them, Muhammad was the founder of Islam, but non-Muslims do not pay attention to the meaning of the words “Islam” and “Muslim” which define the religion of Adam and all Messengers and Prophets, because Adam and his wife were commanded not to eat of a tree; so they had to obey / submit (to God); so they had to be “Muslims” (aka submit (to God)))(Allah knows best)

3:19 Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Book did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the Verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in account.

(The religion in the sight of God is Islam (3:19, 3:85), and in that regard, the Messengers were not Jews or Christians (2:140), but they were Muslims/submitted (to God))(Allah knows best)

2:135 And they said, "Be Jews or Christians, then you will be guided." Say, "Nay, the religion of Abraham, the upright; and he was not of those who associated partners."

(Muslims follow the religion of Abraham (16:123), while, according to Verse 2:135, Jews and Christians don’t)(For example, the Jews were burdened with the Sabbath, because they differed from/in the religion of Abraham (16:123-124))(According to Verse 12:38, Yusuf/Joseph (from the Children of Israel) followed the religion of Abraham as well. So, in regard to religion, he was not Jew, but Muslim (aka “Submitted (to God)”))(Allah knows best)

3:67 Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim, and he was not of the polytheists. 3:68 Indeed, the best people to claim relationship with Abraham (are) those who follow him and this Prophet and those who believe. And Allah (is) a Guardian (of) the believers.

2:133 Or were you witnesses when death came to Jacob, when he said to his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac – One God. And we are Muslims/submissive to Him."

3:52 Then when Jesus perceived disbelief from them, he said, "Who (will be) my helpers (of) Allah." The disciples said "We (will be the) helpers (of) Allah, we believe in Allah and bear witness that we are Muslims.

(According to Verses 3:52 and 5:110, the early “Christians” declared themselves Muslims/Submitted (to God))(According to Acts 11:26, the disciples were called “Christians” first in Antioch, so the word “Christian” was innovated because it is not mentioned in any of the four Gospels)(The word “Jew” was also innovated by themselves because it is derived from the name “Judah”, which was the name of one of Jacob’s twelve sons. Judah was the ancestor of one of the tribes of Israel (tribe of Judah), which was named after him; but it is innovated because, at first, the word “Jew” established lineage (tribe of Judah), not religion, but now it is used in regard to religion, whether he is from the tribe of Judah or from another tribe; but, Judaism differs from the correct religion, so the Messengers were not “Jews” (in regard to religion). And the terms were invented long time after the Prophets)(Allah knows best)

5:110 When Allah said, "O Jesus, son of Mary, remember My Favor upon you and upon your mother when I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit, you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity. And when I taught you the Book and the wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and when you make from clay like the shape of the bird by My permission, then you breath into it, and it becomes a bird by My permission; and you heal those born blind and the leper by My permission; and when you bring forth the dead by My permission. And when I restrained the Children of Israel from you when you came to them with the clear proofs, then those who disbelieved among them said, "This is not but clear magic." 5:111 And when I inspired to the disciples to believe in Me and in My Messenger they said, "We believe and bear witness that indeed we are Muslims.

5:44 Indeed, We revealed the Torah wherein was Guidance and light. The Prophets who submitted judged by it for the Jews, as did the Rabbis and the scholars as they were entrusted with the Book of Allah and they were witnesses to it. So do not fear the people but fear Me, and do not sell My Verses for a little price. And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, then those are the disbelievers.

12:38 And I follow the religion of my forefathers, Abraham, and Isaac and Jacob. It was not for us to associate anything with Allah. That is from the Grace of Allah upon us, and upon the mankind, but most of the men are not grateful.

(The religion of Abraham is also the religion of Isaac and Jacob (12:38), and that’s “from the Grace of God upon us, and upon the mankind” (12:38); so the religion of Abraham was revealed to Muhammad for the whole mankind, so everyone is required to follow the religion of Abraham / Islam, including Jews and Christians)(See the link below “For whom is Islam/the Qur'an?”)(Allah knows best)

14:44 And warn mankind (of) a Day (when) the punishment will come to them, then those who did wrong will say, "Our Lord, (give) us respite for a short term; we will answer Your call and we will follow the Messengers." "Had you not sworn before, (that) for you (there would be) no end?

(Verse 14:44 says, “we will follow the Messengers”. By following Muhammad, you are following other Messengers too, that’s because God revealed to Muhammad to follow the religion of Abraham (16:123); and Verse 12:38 says, “I follow the religion of my forefathers, Abraham, and Isaac and Jacob”; and Verse 42:13 says, “He has ordained for you of the religion what He enjoined upon Noah, and that which We have revealed to you, and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus”)(See the link below: “Is Islam a new religion? 21:25 And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, "There is no deity except Me, so worship Me."

(Jews and Christians do as if they do not recognize their own religion in the Qur’an, while the Qur’an confirms the Torah and the Gospel, and speaks about the same Messengers/Prophets, and same matters (fasting, prostrating in prayer, giving charity, etc.). But the Qur’an does not confirm Jewish and Christian’s false innovations. 43:13 He has ordained for you of the religion what He enjoined upon Noah, and that which We have revealed to you, and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not to be divided therein. Difficult for the polytheists is that to which you call them. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides to Himself whoever turns.

(Verse 43:13 says that it was ordained in the Qur’an that which was enjoined upon Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus. “Abrahamic” religions may differ in what Christians and/or Jews concealed (2:146), and in what they forgot (5:13), and in what they distorted (5:13), and in what they were burdened for their wrongdoing (16:124, 4:160), and in what they innovated (57:27), and in following their own desires (5:48), and in committing excess in their religion (4:171), and in their disbelief (5:72-73), etc.)(Allah knows best)

10:71 And recite to them the news of Noah, when he said to his people, "O my people, if my stay and my reminding the Signs of Allah is hard on you, then I put my trust in Allah. So you resolve all your plan and your partners. Then let there not be any doubt in your plan. Then carry (it out) upon me and do not give me respite. 10:72 But if you turn away, then I have not asked you for any reward. My reward is not but on Allah, and I have been commanded to be of the Muslims." 10:73 But they denied him, so We saved him and (those) who (were) with him in the ship, and We made them successors, and We drowned those who denied Our Signs. Then see how was (the) end (of) those who were warned.

14:35 And when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this city secure and keep me and my sons away from worshiping idols. 14:36 My Lord, indeed, they have led astray many among mankind. So whoever follows me, then indeed, he is of me, and whoever disobeys me, then indeed, You are Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
