According to the Qur’an, does the moon have its own light or is it a reflected light?

According to the Qur’an, does the moon have its own light or is it a reflected light?

91:1 By the sun and its brightness, 91:2 And the moon when it follows it (talaha), 91:3 And the day when it displays it, 91:4 And the night when it covers it,

(The word “talaha” (it follows it)(91:2), in the context of “book”, means “read” or “recite” (e.g. “while you recite (tatluna) the Book” (2:44)). According to the context, the moon follows / reads / recites the sun’s brightness (91:2). It implies that the light of the moon is a reflected light; the moon does not have its own light, because the moon “reads” the light / brightness of the sun (91:1-2). Similarly, people who is in darkness (fig. the moon), they may be enlightened by the enlightening Book (fig. the sun) (14:1, 22:8))(So, the Qur’an is in accordance with science)(Note: the root of “tala” is “Ta-Lam-Waw”, and it means “to follow, walk behind, imitate, to read, recite, etc.”)(Allah knows best)

14:1 Alif Laam Ra. A Book which We have revealed to you, so that you may bring mankind out of darkness into light by the permission of their Lord, to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Praiseworthy.

22:8 And among mankind is (he) who disputes concerning Allah without any knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book,

5:15 O People of the Book, surely there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much. Surely there has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book.

7:157 Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find written with them in the Torah and the Gospel. He commands them to the right and forbids them from the wrong, and he makes lawful for them the pure things and makes unlawful for them the impure things and he relieves them of their burden and the fetters which were upon them. So those who believe in him, and honor him, and help him and follow the light, which has been sent down with him, those are the successful ones."

71:15 Do you not see how Allah has created the seven heavens in layers, 71:16 And made the moon therein a light (nuran) and made the sun a lamp (sirajan)?

(This Verse makes distinction between moon (nuran / light) and sun (sirajan / lamp). So, the sun and the moon are not equal)(Allah knows best)

78:12 And We constructed over you seven strong, 78:13 And We placed a burning lamp (sirajan wahhajan),

(The sun is a burning lamp)(Allah knows best)

25:61 Blessed is He Who has placed in the skies constellations and has placed therein a lamp (sirajan) and a shining (muniran) moon .

(This Verse makes distinction between the sun (sirajan / lamp) and the moon (muniran / shining/illuminating), by using different words to describe them. It is a fact that the moon shines / illuminates. Its surface reflects light from the sun)(Allah knows best)

10:5 He is the One Who made the sun a shining light (diyaan), and the moon a light (nuran) and determined for it phases, that you may know the number of years and the count (of time). Allah has not created that except in truth. He explains the Signs for a people who know.

(This Verse also makes distinction between the sun and the moon. The word “shining” (muniran) is used for the moon in Verse 25:61, and the word “light” (nuran) is used for the moon in Verse 10:5 (same root word), while the word “shining” (“diyaan”) is used for the sun in Verse 10:5, so the sun and the moon are not equal according to the Qur’an)(Allah knows best)

57:9 He (is) the One Who sends down upon His slave clear Verses that He may bring you out from the darkness[es] into the light. And indeed, Allah (is the) Most Kind, (the) Most Merciful to you.
