Is there a verse in the Qur’an called “verse of the sword”? Does it abrogate other verses?

Is there a verse in the Qur’an called “verse of the sword”? Does it abrogate other verses?

9:5 Then, when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and seize them and besiege them and sit (in wait) for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent and establish prayer and give the zakah, then leave their way. Indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(Some non-Muslims wrongly say that the verse of the sword is Verse 9:5, but the word “sword” is not mentioned in the entire Qur’an, so, the Qur’an does not support that there is a verse called “verse of the sword”. On the other hand, the word “sword” is mentioned more than 400 times in the Bible)(There is no abrogation in the Qur’an, but fighting is in the context of self-defense and against oppression in the entire Qur’an. Even Chapter 9 confirms that fighting is in self-defense, just like in other Chapters. See the link below “Which Qur’an, Mecca or Medina?”)(Allah knows best)

9:6 And if anyone of the polytheists seek your protection then grant him protection until he hears the Words of Allah. Then escort him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know.

(Verse 9:6 confirms that fighting is in self-defense, because if the enemies’ intention is other than fighting (e.g. seeking your protection), then they are not killed)(Chapter 9 is in the context of war, because non-Muslims broke their oaths (kinship or covenant of protection (9:8)) and determined to drive out the Messenger and they began to attack the first time (9:13). So, the context is also about self-defense)(Allah knows best)

9:95 They will swear by Allah to you when you returned to them, that you may turn away from them. So turn away from them, indeed, they are impure and their abode is Hell, a recompense for what they used to earn.

9:8 How while, if they gain dominance over you, they do not regard (the ties of) kinship with you or covenant of protection? They satisfy you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse, and most of them are defiantly disobedient. 9:9 They exchange the Verses of Allah for a little price, and they hinder from His way. Indeed, evil is what they used to do. 9:10 With regard to a believer, they do not respect (the ties) of kinship or covenant of protection. And it is they who are the transgressors.

(The polytheists do not respect the kinship or covenant of protection, “and it is they who are the transgressors” (9:10))(Allah knows best)

9:12 And if they break their oaths after their treaty and defame your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief, indeed, their oaths are nothing to them - so that they may cease. 9:13 Will you not fight a people who broke their oaths and determined to drive out the Messenger and they began (to attack) you the first time? Do you fear them? But Allah has more right that you should fear Him, if you are believers.

(According to Verse 9:12, the purpose of fighting is that “they may cease”, so the context is self-defense)(According to Verse 9:13, the enemies attacked first, so Muslims defended themselves)(Allah knows best)

9:30 And the Jews said, "Uzair is son of Allah." And the Christians said, "Messiah is son of Allah." That is their saying with their mouths, they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before. (May) Allah destroy them. How deluded are they.

(They are not fought because they just said something “with their mouths”, so in this case they do not fight against Muslims. Verse 16:126 says “retaliate with the like of that with which you were afflicted”)(Allah knows best)

9:40 If you do not help him, certainly, Allah helped him when those who disbelieved drove him out, the second of two, when they both were in the cave, he said to his companion, "Do not grieve, indeed, Allah is with us." Then Allah sent down His tranquility upon him, and supported him with forces which you did not see, and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the Word of Allah is the highest. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.

9:61 And among them are those who hurt the Prophet and say, "He is an ear." Say, "An ear of goodness for you that believes in Allah and believes the believers and is a mercy to those who believe among you." And those who hurt the Messenger of Allah - for them is a painful punishment. … 9:64 The hypocrites fear lest a Surah be revealed about them, informing them of what is in their hearts. Say, "Mock, indeed, Allah (will) bring forth what you fear." 9:65 And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His Verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?" 9:66 Make no excuse; verily, you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon a party of you, We will punish a party, because they were criminals.

9:107 And those who take a mosque (for) harm and disbelief and division among the believers, and as a station for whoever warred against Allah and His Messenger before. And they will surely swear, "we wish only the good." And Allah bears witness that indeed they are liars.

(There is also self-defense in other Chapters. See the Verses below)(Allah knows best)

42:39 And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they defend themselves. 42:40 The recompense for an evil is an evil like it. But whoever pardons and makes reconciliation, then his reward is on Allah. Indeed, He does not like the wrongdoers.

16:126 And if you retaliate, then retaliate with the like of that with which you were afflicted. But if you are patient, it is surely better for those who are patient.

(Self-defense)(Allah knows best)

5:32 From that time, We ordained on the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul other than for a soul or for spreading corruption in the earth, then it is as if he has killed the whole mankind, and whoever saves it then it is as if he has saved the whole mankind. And surely Our Messengers came to them with clear Signs, yet after that, indeed, many of them surely commit excesses in the earth.

2:190 And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like the transgressors.

(Self-defense)(Allah knows best)

2:193 And fight against them until there is no oppression, and the religion becomes for Allah Then if they cease, then let there be no hostility except against the oppressors.

2:191 And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from wherever they drove you out, and oppression is worse than killing. And do not fight them near Al-Masjid Al-Haraam until they fight you there. Then if they fight you, then kill them. Such is the reward of the disbelievers. 2:192 Then if they cease, then indeed, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(Self-defense)(Allah knows best)

4:90 Except those who join a group between whom and you there is a treaty or those who come to you with hearts restraining them from fighting you or fighting their people. And if Allah had willed, surely He would have given them power over you, and they would surely have fought you. So if they withdraw from you and do not fight against you and offer you peace, then Allah has not made for you a way against them.

4:91 You will find others wishing to be secure from you and to be secure from their people. Every time they are returned to the temptation, they are plunged into it. So if they do not withdraw from you and offer you peace and they restrain their hands, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them. And those - We made for you against them a clear authority.

(Self-defense)(Allah knows best)

4:75 And what is with you that you do not fight in the way of Allah, and (for) those who are weak among men and women and children who say, "Our Lord, take us out of this town whose people are oppressors and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper.

(Self-defense)(Allah knows best)

60:8 Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you in the religion and do not drive you out of your homes, that you deal kindly and justly with them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.

(If the Jews, Christians or any other group do not fight Muslims or drive them out of their homes, then it is not forbidden to deal kindly and justly with them. But If they were to fight you or drive you out of your homes, then it is lawful for Muslims to defend themselves and to drive them out from wherever they drove you out)(Allah knows best)

3:134 Those who spend in ease and hardship and those who restrain the anger and those who pardon people - and Allah loves the good-doers.

(The context of Verse 3:134 is other than war, so they are not fighting you)(Allah knows best)
