The Qur’an on mosquitoes

The Qur’an on mosquitoes

2:26 Indeed, Allah is not ashamed to set forth an example even of a mosquito (ba’udatan) and something above it (fawqaha). Then as for those who believed, they will know that it is the truth from their Lord. And those who disbelieved will say, “what did Allah intend by this example? He lets go astray many by it and He guides many by it. And He does not let go astray by it except the defiantly disobedient.

(The root of “fawqa” is “Fa-Waw-Qaf”, and it means “to be above / over, on, upon, etc.”)(“It” refers to “female mosquito”, because both words are feminine. So, a literal interpretation of the Verse is that there is “something” on the female mosquito. According to the article “mosquito” in Wikipedia, “since most such diseases are carried by “elderly” female mosquitoes, some scientists have suggested focusing on these to avoid the evolution of resistance”, “mosquitoes can act as vectors for many disease-causing viruses and parasites. Infected mosquitoes carry these organisms from person to person without exhibiting symptoms themselves”)(Allah knows best)
