Clarity of the Qur’an? Is the Qur'an vague and unclear?

Clarity of the Qur’an? Is the Qur'an vague and unclear?

6:114 "Then is it other than Allah I should seek as judge, while He is the One Who has revealed to you the Book explained in detail?" And those to whom We gave the Book know that it is sent down from your Lord in truth, so do not be among the doubters.

(According to this Verse, “explained in detail” refers to judging (“Then is it other than Allah I should seek as judge, while He is the One Who has revealed to you the Book explained in detail?”). So, “explained in detail” is subjected to a certain context. For example, the Qur’an says which food is forbidden (“He (has) explained in detail to you what He (has) forbidden to you” (6:119); and also refers to warnings (“The Qur’an in Arabic and have explained the warnings in it that they may fear or that it may cause them remembrance” (20:113), etc.; so, in these examples, the Verses explicitly say which matter is explained in detail. That is in accordance to what the Qur’an is about (for the believers): a “Guidance” (2:2, 2:120), a Criterion (25:1), a Reminder (80:11), etc., not about what it is not intended to be (e.g. an encyclopedia))(The Qur’an is not an encyclopedia, so it does not explain, for example, who was Abu Lahab. See the link below titled “If the Qur’an is explained in detail, why is not possible to learn, who Abu Lahab is and why he and his wife are damned to hell, without referencing hadith? Is chapter 111 pointless?”)(Allah knows best)

77:5 And those who bring down (the) Reminder, 77:6 (As) justification or warning,

16:64 And We have not revealed to you the Book except that you make clear to them that in which they differed, and as a guidance and mercy for a people who believe.

(And also “a confirmation and a detailed explanation / explained in detail” (12:111) refers to making clear to them that in which they differed (16:64), instead of “everything” in general. This is because Verse 12:111 says what the Qur’an is about, in “three points”: “a confirmation … and a detailed explanation of all things, and a guidance and mercy”. And Verse 16:64 also says three points: “except that you make clear to them that in which they differed, and as a guidance and mercy”. Of these three points in Verse 16:64, and three points in Verse 12:111, two of them are the same in both Verses “guidance and mercy”; and the other “point” is different in each Verse: “that you make clear to them that in which they differed” (16:64), and “confirmation of that which was before it and a detailed explanation of all things” (12:111); the conclusion is that “a confirmation and a detailed explanation of all things” refer to “that you make clear to them that in which they differed”; so the two Verses (16:64, 12:111) mention the same three points. So, if two points are the same in both Verses, the third one in each Verse refer to one another. In conclusion, Verses 16:64 and 12:111 are in fact proving that the sentence “a detailed explanation of all things” (12:111) is not “in general”, but are actually specific matters. The Verses of the Qur’an are not mutually exclusive but complement each other)(So, the Qur’an makes clear that in which they differed, by confirming that which God revealed in the Bible (not what He did not reveal / they invented), and by explaining all things (in that regard or context))(Another point is that the Qur’an only confirms the Bible in that which is mentioned in the Qur’an and is also found in the Bible)(Allah knows best)

12:111 Verily, in their stories is a lesson for men of understanding. It is not an invented narration, but a confirmation of that which was before it and a detailed explanation of all things, and a guidance and mercy for a people who believe.

(Verses 10:37 and 5:48 complement each other, because both speak about confirming the Book, that came before the Qur’an. In that regard, Verse 10:37 says “a detailed explanation of the Book”; and Verse 5:48 says that they used to differ; so these two Verses implicitly support the interpretation that “explained in detail” refers to “that in which they differed”, instead of “everything” in general)(Allah knows best)

10:37 And it was not that this Qur’an could be produced by other than Allah, but (it is) a confirmation of that which was before it and a detailed explanation of the Book, about which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds.

5:48 And We have revealed to you the Book in truth, confirming the Book that came before it and as a guardian over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their vain desires when the truth has come to you. For each of you We have made a law and a clear way. And if Allah had willed, He would have made you one community [and] but to test you in what He has given you; so race to good. To Allah you will all return, then He will inform you concerning that over which you used to differ.

43:63 And when Jesus came with clear proofs, he said, "Verily, I have come to you with wisdom and to make clear to you some of that over which you differ. So fear Allah and obey me.

(Likewise, Jesus came to make clear to the Children of Israel some of that over which they differed. And Jesus confirmed what came before him of the Torah (61:6))(Allah knows best)

2:213 Mankind was a single community, then Allah raised up Prophets (as) bearers of glad tidings and (as) warners, and sent down with them the Book in truth to judge between the people concerning that in which they differed. And did not differ in it except those who were given it, after clear proofs came to them, (out of) jealousy among themselves. And Allah guided those who believed concerning that over which they differed of the Truth, with His permission. And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path.

(Verse 2:213 confirms that the Book was sent down to judge between the people concerning that in which they differed)(Allah knows best)

6:119 And why should you not eat of that on which Allah's name has been mentioned, when indeed, He (has) explained in detail to you what He (has) forbidden to you, except that to which you are compelled. And indeed, many surely lead astray by their desires without knowledge. Indeed, your Lord, He is most knowing of the transgressors.

(In this Verse, according to the context, “explained in detail” refers to the food that has been forbidden)(Allah knows best)

11:1 Alif Lam Ra. A Book whose Verses are perfected, moreover explained in detail from (the One Who is) All-Wise, All-Aware.

15:1 Alif Laam Ra. These are Verses of the Book and a clear Qur’an.

(The sentences “explained in detail” or “clear Qur’an” do not refer to allegorical or unspecific verses (3:7), because there is an intention that those in whose hearts is deviation, they would follow the unspecific Verses (3:7). It does not change the fact that the Qur’an is clear in that which the Qur’an is about. The purpose of those Verses is explained and people are warned about it)(Allah knows best)

27:1 Ta Seen. These (are the) Verses (of) the Qur’an and a clear Book ... 27:93 And say, "All praise (be) to Allah, He will show you His Signs, and you will recognize them. And your Lord is not unaware of what you do."

(It is also said that it is not known what are the letters at the beginning of some Chapters. In the case of Chapter “An-Naml” (The Ant), those letters at the beginning make the numbers match: that Chapter is numbered 27, and has 93 Verses. It begins with two letters “Tay Siin”. In Chapter 27 the letter “Tay” is written 27 times. And in this Chapter (Chapter 27), consisting of 93 Verses, the letter “Siin” is written 93 times. Source: Shabir Ally)(See also the link below “The Qur’an and Mathematics”)(Allah knows best)

3:7 He is the One Who revealed to you the Book, in it are Verses which are absolutely clear - they are the foundation of the Book, and others are allegorical. Then as for those in whose hearts is perversity - [so] they follow what is allegorical of it, seeking discord and seeking its interpretation. And none except Allah knows its interpretation. And those who are firm in knowledge, they say, "We believe in it. All is from our Lord." And not will take heed except men of understanding.

(It is interpreted that “explained in detail” or “clear Qur’an” do not refer to allegorical Verses. The Verses of the Qur’an are not mutually exclusive but complement each other)(Allah knows best)

111:1 Perish the hands of Abu Lahab and perish he. 111:2 His wealth and what he earned will not avail him. 111:3 He will be burnt in a Fire of Blazing Flames, 111:4 And his wife, the carrier of firewood, 111:5 In her neck will be a rope of palm-fiber.

(In regard to, for example, why Abu Lahab and his wife are condemned to hell, the Qur’an explains the reason why a person is condemned to Hell, so everything is explained in detail in that regard. And in regard to who is Abu Lahab, the Qur’an tells about Prophets having a disbelieving wife, or father, etc. So, the Qur’an “explained in detail” does not refer to knowing everything about “Abu Lahab”, but to, for example, matters about judging (6:114), what food is forbidden (6:119), what would condemn someone to Hell, etc. This is in accordance to what the Qur’an is: a “Guidance” (2:2, 2:120), a Criterion (25:1), a Reminder (80:11), warning (20:113), etc.)(Allah knows best)

97:1 Indeed, We revealed it in the Night of Power (laylati l-qadri). 97:2 And what can make you know what the Night of Power (laylatu l-qadri) is? 97:3 The Night of Power (laylatu l-qadri) is better than a thousand months. 97:4 Therein descend the Angels and the Spirit, by the permission of their Lord, for every affair, 97:5 Peace it (hiya) is until the emergence of dawn.

(Another point is that some matters require calculations in order to be known; for example, in the case of Verses 97:1-5, the Qur’an does not explicitly say when the Night of Power is, while the Qur’an implicitly says it: according to ibn Abbas, the cousin of Muhammad, “Laylatul Qadr” (“Night (of) Power”) is on the 27th Night of Ramadan. His cousin said so because he counted the number of words in Surah 97 (Surah Al-Qadr); this Surah/Chapter’s complete theme is Laylatul Qadr; so there are 5 words in the first Ayah/Verse; there are 5 more words in the second Ayah; and then 6 words in the third Ayah; then 9 words in the fourth Ayah; and 5 words in the fifth Ayah; so exactly 30 words are there in Chapter 97; these 30 words refer to the 30 days of Ramadan; the 27th word in this Surah is “hiya” (“it”); and “it” refers to “Laylatul Qadr”)(According to the Prophet’s cousin, counting the number of letters in the phrase “Laylatul Qadr”, the word “Laylah” is 4 letters in Arabic, and “Al Qadr” is 5 letters in Arabic, so there are a total of 9 letters in the phrase “Laylatul Qadr”, and this phrase “Laylatul Qadr” is repeated thrice in this Surah/Chapter, it makes up 9 x 3 = 27, so a total of 27 letters / alphabets are there which refer to Laylatul Qadr in this Surah)(Source: Med Sah’s youtube channel. And the information is also verified by myself)(Allah knows best)

2:125 And when We made the House a place of return for mankind and security and "Take the standing place of Abraham, as a place of prayer." And We made a covenant with Abraham and Ishmael, "Purify My House for those who circumambulate, and those who seclude themselves for devotion and prayer and those who bow down and those who prostrate.”

(Muslims circumambulate around the Kaaba, which is the direction of prayer, seven times during pilgrimage, but it is thought that those seven times are not mentioned in the Qur’an. But it might be implicitly mentioned: the word “Qibla” (direction of prayer) is mentioned 7 times in the Qur’an (2:142, 2:143, 2:144, 2:145 (3 times) and 10:87))(Allah knows best)

2:26 Indeed, Allah is not ashamed to set forth an example even of a mosquito and something above it. Then as for those who believed, they will know that it is the truth from their Lord. And those who disbelieved will say, “what did Allah intend by this example? He lets go astray many by it and He guides many by it. And He does not let go astray by it except the defiantly disobedient.

(Verse 2:26 speaks about those who wonder about examples which they do not understand, they go astray by it. Those who disbelieve follow a purpose)(Allah knows best)

17:82 And We reveal from the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.

(The Qur’an is a “Guidance” (2:2, 2:120), a Criterion (25:1), a Reminder (80:11), etc., for the believers, not for the wrongdoers. So, there is a purpose that the revelation increases many people in disbelief (5:68))(Allah knows best)

5:68 Say, "O People of the Book, you are not on anything until you stand firmly by the Torah and the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord. And that which has been revealed to you from your Lord will surely increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people.

(The Qur’an says what it says, and how it says it, according to a purpose. There are no contradictions in the Qur’an, but you have to interpret the Verses according to the context, and may be complemented by other Verses)(Allah knows best)

8:49 When the hypocrites and those in whose hearts (was) a disease said, "Their religion (had) deluded these (people)." But whoever puts (his) trust in Allah then indeed, Allah (is) All-Mighty, All-Wise."

29:2 Do the people think that they will be left because they say, "We believe" and they will not be tested? 29:3 And indeed, We tested those before them. And Allah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.

17:41 And verily, We have explained in this Qur’an, that they may take heed, but it does not increase them except in aversion.

52:42 Or do they intend a plot? But those who disbelieve are themselves the plot.

32:13 And if We had willed, surely We would have given every soul its guidance, but the Word from Me will come true, "I will fill Hell with jinn and men all together.

22:16 And thus We sent it down as clear Verses, and that Allah guides whom He intends.

72:17 That We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the Remembrance (of) his Lord, He will make him enter a severe punishment.

9:124 And whenever a Surah is revealed, among them are some who say, "Which of you has increased in faith by it?" As for those who believe, then it has increased them in faith and they rejoice. 9:125 But as for those in whose hearts is a disease, it increases them in evil to their evil. And they die while they are disbelievers.

17:41 And verily, We have explained in this Qur’an, that they may take heed, but it does not increase them except in aversion.

42:51 And it is not for any human that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a veil or (by) sending a messenger then he reveals, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High, the Most Wise.

20:113 And thus We have sent it down, the Qur’an in Arabic and have explained the warnings in it that they may fear or that it may cause them remembrance.

(In this Verse, “explained” refers to the warnings. Verse 22:49 says what the Prophet says, “I am only a clear warner to you”. The Prophet recites the Qur’an, and the warnings in there are clear)(Allah knows best)

3:138 This is a declaration for the people and guidance and admonition for the God-fearing.

46:7 And when Our clear Verses are recited to them, those who disbelieve say about the truth when it comes to them, "This is clear magic."

6:105 And thus We explain the Signs that they (may) say, "You have studied," and that We (may) make it clear for a people who know.

28:2 These (are the) Verses (of) the clear [the] Book.

17:12 And We have made the night and the day (as) two signs. Then We erased (the) sign (of) the night, and We made (the) sign (of) the day visible, that you may seek bounty from your Lord, and that you may know (the) number (of) [the] years, and the account. And We have explained [it] everything (in) detail.

21:108 Say, "It is only revealed to me that your god is One God; so will you submit/be Muslims?"

(Verse 21:108 says, "It is only revealed to me that your god is One God; so will you submit/be Muslims?”. The Qur’an is completely clear in that you have to submit/obey God, instead of people’s innovations or your desires)(Allah knows best)
